Frozen shoulder

It is also called as peri arthritis or adhesive capsulitis. Lesions of soft tissues of the loco motor system such as tendons, bursae, joint capsules etc., are common. Generally they are caused by mechanical stress eg. repititive mild trauma or excessive use.

It is a common disorder where both active and passive movements of the shoulder joint are spontaneously or after trauma. Hemiplegia, fracture of upper limb, cervical spondylosis may also predispose this condition. It occurs in older age group. There is aching pain in shoulder with restriction of movements. All investigations including x-ray may be normal. Arthrography of shoulder may show a shrunken and thickened capsule. The shoulder hand syndrome is a rare condition in which an immobile painful shoulder becomes associated with a swollen, painful, cold and stiff hand.
